New Start Gate & Other stuff

2008 will see Summerhill setting things off with the help of a brand new start gate. Cheers to Dave Smith for sorting out the new and improved lighter gate! In other news, NEBMX have been confirmed as hosts of the 7th round of the 2008 National Series. This is big news for us and the culmination of many years hard graft by the club. Big changes are planned prior to this event so everyone new and old to the track can look forward to something extra special to their teeth into. Full dates and info about the 2008 race season are up now in the events section of the site.

The Brits 2007

Wow, a no.1, 2 no.3’s, a no.4, a no.5,  a no. 7 and a no. 8 plus numerous other excellent performances.

What a weekend, which started with horrendous traffic heading to Burnham on Sea in the South West, then Jack broke his wrist at Friday night practice, (I am sure he will be back soon ready for next season).

Saturday practice happened and the track provided some interesting decisions for riders on a very technical and challenging track.

Sunday arrived and the club was represented on the track by Mary,Peter,Aiden,Darcy,Harley,Dan,Sophie,Jenny,Adam,Zack,Mark,Alan and myself . Off the track we were well represented by numerous vocal club representatives.

The moto’s progressed and despite some hard riding Mary ,Peter and Zack were eliminated. Alan riding in one of the hardest groups of the day (30-39 cruiser) progressed through to the semi finals where unfortunately he was unable to repeat his performance of last year. He was eliminated but joined the vocal support on the track fencing. It was at this stage that Mark also exited from the racing in the entertaining and exciting Old school Class.

After lots of nerves both for riders and supporters Harley,Aiden,Dan,Adam and myself joined Sophie and Jenny in our respective finals.

Now for finals time and the tension was mounting.Harley was first up with an excellent 3rd place. Aiden was next in  the 9 year olds were he finished an excellent 8th. I was next up in 40+cruiser and I finished 5th. I then joined the vociferous support trackside. Dan was next up and what a race.  The supporters were leaning further over that fence, I thought John was going to get on the track! Dan rode his best race of the year finishing third. Jenny and Sophie were next up in the 10-12 girls. My turn on that fence! Jenny came down the second straight going from 6th to 4th, she crossed the line 4th  for her best result of the year. Sophie pedalled hard to finish in an excellent 7th place.

Now for the big one, Adam in the 13 year olds. He had dominated his class all day so expectations were high, and he didn’t disappoint coming home with the 01 plate of BRITISH CHAMPION!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a day, emotions were high there were handshakes, hugs, tears and wine all around.

These championships were a huge success for the club. Well done to all riders and supporters.

Adam Smith selected for Talent Team Training Camp

Adam Smith has been selected for a week long training camp in September with the British Cycling Talent Team. Adam impressed National Coach Jeremy Hayes with his riding at the Hartlepool regional race on 22/7/07. Several phone calls later and Adam has been given the opportunity to build on all the hard work he has put in up to now. I am sure he will take the opportunity to develop his riding further, but also to push some of the established Talent Team riders.

Well done Adam hopefully this will be an inspiration to others in the club.

Peterborough National(s)

Just received this from BC.

Due to the cancelled double header at Bournemouth last weekend, the first of two replacement nationals have been set.  Peterborough national will now host rounds 3 and 4.  Round 3 will take place from Saturday afternoon and in to the evening.  This means that the practice schedule will move forward 3 hours.  Sunday’s schedule will remain the same.

The 2nd replacement round is yet to be secured, but the initial intention is to stick to the existing calendar of weekends.  The option of putting on a replacement event on a new weekend is possible, but not without upsetting another region’s calendar.  Due to the proposed “Autumn National Series” and clashes, keeping to the existing announced weekends was considered to be the favoured option by the majority.

Thanks to Peterborough Phantoms for stepping up and enthusiastically offering their services.  Thanks also to the officials team, Bolsover support truck team and the medics for changing plans at late notice.  For those not used to Euro style double weekends on long tracks, I suggest you get to bed early on Friday and Saturday, keep off the pop and go easy in practice.

My apologies to anyone inconvenienced by the new schedule.
